The Night Strangler is the second Kolchak: The Night Stalker movie which aired as part of the ABC Movie of the Week. It is a sequel to the previous ABC Movie of the Week The Night Stalker, which had been filmed as a pilot and was one of the highest-rated movies of that banner to date. Although the original was set in Los Angeles, this sequel was set in Seattle. The success of these two movies led to the one-season long series Kolchak: The Night Stalker, which was again relocated to Chicago.
