Red Dwarf — Season One

Me² is the sixth episode of the first season of Red Dwarf, and the sixth episode overall.

Plot Overview

Now that there are two Rimmers, one of them is moving out of Lister's quarters to share a room with the other Arnold Rimmer next door. It seems like the two Rimmers will get along fabulously, since they share the same wants and ideas. They are in fact the same person.

Lister, now with a room all to himself, slobs around a bit, and then finds Rimmer's video tribute to his own death. Lister watches the video , and can't help but notice that Rimmer's last words were "gazpacho soup". Puzzled by these unusual last words, Lister sneaks next door to have a peek at Rimmer's diary, where he finds an entry marked: November 25 - Gazpacho Soup Day.

As time goes on, Lister overhears the Rimmers arguing loudly and trading immature insults at the top of their lungs. Finally, when their bickering and juvenile antics spill over into the cinema, Lister decides that one of them has to be erased.

When the time comes, Lister asks the condemned Rimmer to explain gazpacho soup. Having nothing to lose, Rimmer explains that he'd been with the company for 14 years when he was invited to the captain's table. They served gazpacho soup, and he didn't know that gaspacho soup was served cold. He ordered the chef to take it and bring it back warm, and he did. He will never be able to forget the look on the officers' faces as he ate his piping-hot gazpacho soup. They were laughing at him! He was never invited to dine with the captain again.

Lister then tells Rimmer that he already wiped the other Rimmer. Lister had planned it that way so he could get the gazpacho soup story. Lister promises not to mention gazpacho soup ever again, but he can't resist prodding Rimmer by using the word "souper".
