YuYu Hakusho (1992–1995) is a paranormal anime series based on the manga series of the same name by Yoshihiro Togashi. The series revolves around Yusuke Urameshi, a hooligan with no respect for anyone or anything that surprises everyone when he sacrifices his own life to save a small child from a speeding car. Urameshi, now confronted with an afterlife that was in no way prepared for his arrival, is put to work as a detective for the spirit realm.
The series was licensed by FUNimation for broadcast in America in 2001. The series was brought to Cartoon Network at a time when the network wasn't sure of what demographic would be attracted to their newly founded Adult Swim block. Like Pilot Candidate, the series was eventually bounced to Toonami in March 2003 where it aired almost in its entirety. The series was bumped one more time to a 5:30 AM timeslot where it finished out its run.
