Plot Overview
When Clay Jensen finds a box of audio cassette tapes left on his front doorstep, he learns that they are from a classmate of his, Hannah Baker, who recently committed suicide. As he listens to the first tape on his friend Tony's Walkman, Clay learns about the events that lead up to Hannah's suicide and begins the first tape by telling the story of her first kiss with classmate Justin Foley, who ends up spreading a rumor of a sexual nature that affects Hannah's reputation.
