Plot Overview

Hasan Numair is on the loose and Jack is being reinstated as the leader of the search for Numair and Fayed. The field team, along with Assad, have discovered a PDA which confirms that Fayed has a suitcase nuke that could potentially kill hundreds of thousands. But, now that Jack is in command, he sets Chloe onto the task of finding out what Curtis' history with Assad is.

Meanwhile, Numair has reconnected with Fayed's cell and is inspecting the weapon. They don't, however, have the module required for programming the bomb because Ray still has it. Ray bargains with Ahmed for the release of one family member in exchange for him delivering the module to Fayed. Ray begs his wife to not alert the authorities and attempts to make good on his bargain with Ahmed, but Jillian reconsiders and dials 911.

Wallace is patched through to Jack and she explains the situation with Ahmed directing her husband to deliver a package to Fayed. Unfortunately, she wasn't around at the time that Ahmed gave her husband directions and her husband doesn't have a cell phone on him. Buchanan tells Jack that he's the closest team to the hostage situation and should be the one to follow up on it. While he's on his way, the President phones Jack after discovering that Assad is, in fact, serious about denouncing terrorism. He's offered a full pardon and protection as long as he continues to help in the investigation and agrees to fostering peace.

After the president's conversation with Jack, Sandra Palmer calls in to complain about how her client has been treated, but Thom Lennox takes the call instead. He refuses to pass on any messages to the president and lobs threats at him in response. Meanwhile, Walid is told by Salim, the man he was put into interrogation over, that something will happen to the Americans today. Salim is taken aside by another man speaking in Arabic, which Walid listens in on.

Ray Wallace has delivered the package which allows the programming of the bomb, but his pleas to make Ahmed let his son leave go unheard. He calls Ahmed and tells him to kill the boy because he's heard and seen too much. At this time, Jack and his team arrive in the neighborhood of Ahmed and Scott. Ahmed finally gets up the nerve to execute Scott, but Curtis and the team bursts in and flushes Ahmed out towards Jack. Ahmed is shot by one of the team members, but Scott manages to relay the address he overheard when Ahmed was on the phone.

The aftermath of a nuclear device set off in Los Angeles.
At the holding facility, Walid passes on an Arabic phrase that the two men kept using to Sandra and tells her that he's not going to leave the facility in case he can help with the FBI. Back at the Wallace house, Jack gets information on Curtis' relationship with Assad, who killed several men in his unit during Desert Storm. Although Assad has signed a full pardon from the president, Curtis goes after him. Curtis pulls his weapon on Assad and threatens to shoot him, forcing Jack to shoot Curtis in the neck, killing him. Meanwhile, Ahmed dies on the way to the hospital. Jack tells Buchanan that there's no way that he can continue to work now that he's killed a colleague in order to save a terrorist, albeit a former terrorist.

The strike team has found its way to the warehouse where Fayed has the bomb. They covertly infiltrate, but quickly break into a shoot out. During the battle, Numair finishes his work on the bomb and flips the detonation switch, lighting off the nuclear bomb and killing everyone in the warehouse instantly. At CTU, the FBI have relayed the message from Walid: There are five nuclear bombs in the country.

Happenings

  • Fayed's Bomb: The nuclear bomb that Fayed had received is programmed and detonated by the scientist who arranged for its delivery. However, this isn't the only bomb. Walid managed to pick up on a phrase in Arabic, "there are five visitors," while in the detention camp. Four more nuclear bombs are some where in the nation.

Characters

  • Curtis: Prior to working at CTU, Curtis was in the army during Desert Storm. His unit was ambushed by Assad's men in Iraq and five killed and two taken hostage before they were beheaded. Curtis attempted to get retribution in this hour, but he was shot and killed by Jack before it could happen.
