Plot Overview

Angel takes a case for Gunn’s cousin and infiltrates a meeting with a couple of demons, guard, and Gunn’s cousin to plot a museum robbery for the Shroud of Rahom. However, Gunn shows up as his cousin and they discover that the robbery is being carried out for the very same night. The tension between them boils when the shroud begins making them and the others insane. The situation gets worse when Wesley and Cordelia show up to warn them and discovers Kate is also there.

Happenings

Characters

  • Angel: In this episode, Angel fed on human blood for the first time in a very long time. Wesley and Cordelia fear that his bloodlust has returned.
  • Kate: Angel attacks Kate and drains some of her blood. Although she isn't killed by this, it certainly adds further confusion to their relationship. Although he did attack her, he did it in order to protect her from something that would kill her.

Trivia

The Show

Behind the Scenes

  • Ratings: On its first airing, this episode scored a 3.9/6 in the overnight Nielsen ratings. It was ranked 3rd out of the 17 WB shows which aired that week.

Allusions and References

  • Chow Yun-Fat: Chow Yun-Fat is a Chinese actor who is most famous for starring in films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hard Boiled and The Killer.
Angel: What, you met Chow Yun-Fat?
  • Rat Pack: In the 1950s and 1960s, the Rat Pack was a group of celebrities who regularly appeared in movies and on stage together. Although originally gathered around Humphrey Bogart, the group eventually shifted focus onto Frank Sinatra. They were notoriously stylish and, as Angel suggests, had a great deal of imitators.
Angel: Well, he ran with the whole Sinatra rat pack thing. Never got over it.
  • MacArthur Park: MacArthur Park is a song about the park of the same name in western Los Angeles. Originally written by Jimmy Webb and performed by Richard Harris, the seven-minute song managed to reach #2 on the US singles charts despite its bizarre and nearly nonsensical lyrics.
Angel: Don't you know anything else, like say MacArthur Park?

Memorable Moments

Goofs

  • Everyone in the museum is easily effected by the shroud once the vault the tomb is in is opened. This makes one wonder how the tomb was able to make its way to a museum in the first place.

Quotes

  • Wesley: What happened to your head?
Cordelia: Excuse me?
Wesley: Your hair. It's... new. It's great! When did this happen?
Cordelia: Ten days ago.
Wesley: Of course! I didn't want to embarrass you by...
Cordelia: Noticing?
  • Cordelia: Au contraire. His day is packed. Brood about Darla. Brood about Darla. Lunch! Followed by a little Darla brooding.
Wesley: Right. Enough is enough. I'm gonna march up there and tell him just that.
Cordelia: Nice posturing!
Wesley: Thank you!
  • Lester: He cool, right?
Gunn: He's cool.
Lester: You know, not that I'm prejudiced. I just hate vampires.
Angel: You're enlightened, I can tell.
  • Gunn: And what am I supposed to do? Sit home and knit?
Angel: I could use a sweater. Something dark.
  • Kate: Don't suppose you'd testify against her in a blindingly sunny court of law?
  • Vyasa: Oh, he's funny. You're funny. You'll be even funnier when I crush your head.
Angel: Funny "ha, ha" or funny peculiar?
  • Menlo: Something wrong?
Gunn: Depends. Do we all got to wear these ugly ass shirts? Is this, you know, like a team thing? 'Cause, you know, I got my pride.
  • Cordelia: Okay. Two words I don't like right off the bat: tomb and unearthed. People, you've got to leave your tombs earthed!
Wesley: Shroud of Rahmon. Have you ever heard of it?
Cordelia: I'm not big on shrouds. They're an after-you-die outfit.
  • Cordelia: Why is it always virgin women who have to do the sacrificing?
Wesley: For purity, I suppose.
Cordelia: This has nothing to do with purity. This is all about dominance, buddy. You can bet if someone ordered a male body part for religious sacrifice the world would be atheist like that.
  • Angel: You know, I'm getting pretty tired of this "vampires killed my sister, so now I'm all entitled" song. Don't you know anything else, like, say, "MacArthur Park"?
