Characters

  • Lorne: Lorne gets a job at a club in Las Vegas where he'll resume his old position as a singer and seer. He moves out of the house and leaves only a copy of his CD with Angel.
  • Wesley and Lilah: After a great deal of nagging, Wesley and Lilah wind up sleeping together, but Lilah still has no effect on him. He tells her to get out shortly after the sex.
  • Cordelia: Skip comes to Cordelia and tells her that she's a higher being that has outgrown her plane of reality. She accepts this new position and (literally) ascends into a different reality.
  • Angel: While waiting for Cordelia, Angel is confronted by Connor, who fight him until he is knocked unconscious. When he wakes up, he finds himself restrained in a steel crate. Connor and Justine push the crate into the ocean, where they expect him to stay for an eternity.

Referbacks

  • 3x11 - Birthday: Skip acted as Cordelia's demon guide through her past and potential future. He was the one through which the Powers spoke to her and eventually was the one who gave her the demon powers that allowed her to control her visions.
'Cordelia: Yeah. Skip. You tend to remember your demon guides.

Trivia

The Show

  • Final Appearance: This episode is the final appearance of Holtz in the series due to his death. This is also the final appearance of the Groosalugg, who leaves Cordelia after he realizes that she is in love with Angel.

Behind the Scenes

  • Ratings: On its first airing, this episode scored a 3.7/5 in the overnight Nielsen ratings. It was ranked 4th out of the 12 WB shows which aired that week.

Allusions and References

  • Midnight Train to Georgia: Gladys Knight and the Pips' biggest hit was "Midnight Train to Georgia" off their tenth album, Imagination. The Motown song is from the perspective of the girlfriend of a failed musician who moves back home to Georgia after languishing in Los Angeles. She decides to go with him, despite being secure with her place in the world.
Lorne: Leaving on the midnight train to Georgia. Actually it's the nine eighteen flight to Vegas tomorrow, but where is the poetry in that?
  • Cats: Cats is a musical composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. It has the distinction of being one of the longest running Broadway musicals, but is often criticised for its lack of central storyline. The musical instead progresses through a series of vignettes sung from the perspective of alley cats.
Angel: Vampire. You're not in Cats.

Memorable Moments

Quotes

  • Groosalugg: Might I further relieve you by at first gently and then more rapidly rubbing your schlug-tee?
Cordelia: Uh, I don't really, um... Maybe later at home. (whispers) I don't feel comfortable doing it in the office, Groo.
Groosalugg: Doing it?
Cordelia: Sex.
Groosalugg: (loudly) Oh, you wish to have sex!
Cordelia: What? No! Shh!
Groosalugg: I was proposing a massage of your schlug-tee. Your tense neck muscle. But, it is always an honour to make sex with you! (whispers) Later at home. I understand perfectly.
  • Angel: I found Holtz.
Cordelia: And?
Angel: I didn't kill him.
Cordelia: Maybe you're growing as a person.
  • (talking about Connor)
Angel: I don't even own a TV. He's gonna want to watch TV. Not too much, I mean after homework and chores. He's gonna need clothes, weekly allowance. What's good nowadays? Fifty cents? A dollar?
Cordelia: Yeah, if you're Tom Sawyer painting a fence.
Angel: See? I'm so out of touch. He's gonna hate me.
Cordelia: No, he's not. He's gonna love you.
Angel: How do you know?
Cordelia: Because you're you.
Angel: Me. A vampire.
Cordelia: You, a vampire.
Angel: Who drinks blood, keeps to the shadows, and is older than everybody he knows put together.
Cordelia: You're all those things, plus tight with a buck. But none of that matters.
Angel: Why not?
Cordelia: Because you have the biggest and best heart of anyone I've ever known. He's a smart kid. He'll figure it out.
  • Cordelia: Well, what about rebuilding your club here?
Lorne: Well, that's a great idea, pixie-cat. Except every time I do, you all seem to destroy it.
Cordelia: It was only... three times.
  • Lilah: Mind if I join you?
Wesley: On many levels and with great intensity.
  • Lilah: Well, I care.
Wesley: You care.
Lilah: As one human being to another. (beat) Just kidding.
  • Lilah: What was it like when she cut you?
Wesley: (grabbing her throat) Are you terribly anxious to find out?
  • Angel: (talking about Connor) Well someone's gotta make sure he knows the facts of life! My track record with the whole man/woman thing isn't, you know - don't wanna use the words -"tragic farce."
Cordelia: Why not?
  • Fred: He's really happy. (starts to jab Angel in the back with a stake) But not perfectly happy, I hope.
Angel: No. Ow!
Fred: Just checking.
  • Lilah: Don't go making more of this than it is. I'm not one of the doey-eyed girls of Angel Investigations. Don't be thinking about me when I'm gone.
Wesley: I wasn't thinking about you when you were here.
  • Lilah: (after having sex with Wesley) So, your former boss has a soul and you're losing yours. Why, you're just new all over, aren't you?
  • Connor: Killing is too good for you. You don't get to die. You get to live... forever.
