As the World Turns is a soap opera that aired on CBS. After Guiding Light was canceled in 2009, As The World Turns became the longest running existing soap opera on daytime TV and held that distinction until it also ended on September 17, 2010. It was noted for having been interrupted three times on the East Coast on November 22, 1963 as Walter Cronkite delivered bulletins on the assassination attempt (which proved to be successful) on President John F. Kennedy. On the West Coast, a repeat of the sitcom The Real McCoys was interrupted; As The World Turns was pre-empted altogether as continuous coverage started at 11 AM PST.
