Happenings
- Marion discovers Sam is married. After smashing his car, she returns to the motel where Norman urges her to leave, to start a new life and get rid of anything that can be traced to her.
Characters
- After an absence, Mother returns.
- After learning about Norma's death, Dylan calls Norman. Despite Dylan's refusal to accept it, Norman sticks by the story that she killed herself.
- Norman now acknowledges that Mother is just an illusion of his own making. However, Mother fights him on this until he gives in.
- Mother forces Norman to confront why he made her up. It has to do with the abuse she received at the hands of his father and she was made to keep him from feeling the fear and pain. She tells him that he is now old enough to deal with them and instead of Mother, Norman does what he wanted to do with his father and kills Sam Loomis.

Memorable Moments
- A twist on a twist: rather than Marion, it's Sam Loomis who is stabbed to death in the shower by Norman and does as himself and not as Mother.
Quotes
- Norman: The only secret between us is that you don't exist. I made you up. My mother is not here. Now get out of my way.
- Norma: If I'm not here, then why am I here?
- Norman: Because of the girl who checked in. Because she's attractive. You see? I'm starting to understand it all now.
- Norma: Norman, you can't outmanoeuvre me.
- Norman: I think for the first time in a long while, I'm actually starting to have some clarity.
- Norma: Nothing like a crazy person announcing their own clarity.
- Norman: Oh, mother. What have I done?
