DRADIS station in CIC

DRADIS: "Direction, Range, Distance"

DRADIS is a detection, identification and tracking system similar to modern-day radar. DRADIS reads IFF (Identify Friend/Foe) transmissions from friendly ships, scans unidentified vessels, and attempts to identify them based on known profiles.

Ships and astronomical bodies scanned by the DRADIS sensors are referred to as "DRADIS contacts". Contacts are typically identified by cross-referencing with an IFF system (in the case of ships) or an astronomical database (in the instance of planets or other celestial bodies).
DRADIS readout

A typical DRADIS reading consists of two pieces of information; Bearing, which describes a contact's location along the XY plane, and Carom, which describes the angle above or below the XY plane of a vessel, perpendicular to bearing. It also appears that DRADIS uses a 1000-unit degree reading instead of the typical 360.

Galactica's CIC has a DRADIS console with primary control over the ship's DRADIS system. From this station, sensor readouts can be transferred to other CIC monitors and displays. Lieutenant Felix Gaeta is commonly shown manning the DRADIS station and calling out DRADIS contacts as part of his duties as tactical officer.
