Basic Information

Character History

Summer and her mother Jackie moved to California to escape Jackie's abusive ex-boyfriend. They traveled across the country in their trailer and set up home in a local trailer park. Summer was a star athlete in her hometown, winning many awards for swimming. Despite her strong swimming skills, she was nervous about trying out for rookie school due to her inexperience on the beach. The day she was signing up for tryouts, her mother's ex-boyfriend tracked her down and confronted her. When he began to get physical with her, Matt Brody stepped in and stopped him. This was the start of a long friendship between the two. When Summer was nervous over jumping off the pier during rescue attempts, Matt helped her overcome her fears. Their ability to work well as a team led them both to be assigned to work at Baywatch.

Summer met a local surfer by the name of Jimmy Slade and immediately became smitten with him. Despite his popularity with many other girls, the two finally began to date. When Slade went to Hawaii to be on the professional surfing circuit, he barely wrote or called her. This frustrated Summer and she took it as a sign that they were no longer dating. When Matt began to show an interest in her romantically, Summer felt guilty due to Matt's close friendship with Slade. She did not know how to choose between them when Slade returned and wanted to start dating again. This caused her a lot of stress and she began to develop an eating disorder. With the help of C.J. Parker, Summer overcame her bulimia. Slade also stopped pressuring Summer, once he saw how close she and Matt had become.

Summer and Matt began to get serious and even talked about moving in together, but during the break between the fourth and fifth seasons, the two broke up. Summer found the breakup to be extremely painful and she decided to move back to Pittsburgh and attend college there.

Summer returned for the reunion movie Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding, where she formed a relationship with Mitch's son Hobie despite their eight-year age difference.
