Plot Overview
After their stunt on the Spirit Hunter set yesterday, Mr. Kagine tries to pin detention on everyone involved, especially Rukia and Ichigo. The gang escapes when Rukia puts on a fake-crying act, but almost immediately after they're freed, Ichigo is called off on another hollow alert. But, when they get to the alley where the hollow was supposed to be, all they find is a fat spirit blubbering about "something scary" and a shadowy figure above them.
After ogling their exam scores, Rukia pulls Ichigo away from class to fight another hollow, but there's nothing to be found except for Uryu Ishida, the top scorer in his class. Uryu insults Ichigo for not being able to sense hollows on his own and destroys it from a distance with his Kojaku. He explains that he's a Quincy and that soul reapers are his enemies. The next day, Ichigo tracks down Uryu at school and follows him until Uryu lets Ichigo know that he isn't as stealthy as he'd like to think he is. He also admits that he knows the secrets of Ichigo and Rukia before challenging him to a duel. Ichigo pops his soul out Kon's mod soul and accepts the duel after being insulted one last time.
Meanwhile, Urahara explains to Rukia what a Quincy is. He explains that the Quincys were a clan of people in the soul society who trained to kill hollows outright instead of purifying them as soul reapers do. The Quincys resented this idea that hollows could be given the peace of crossing over so much that they split with the soul reapers, eventually declaring them as enemies as well.
