Plot Overview
McCord walks into a cantina and buys a carafe of wine and two glasses. He then goes to visit a grave, which leads to him reminiscing about an encounter with a group of Negro soldiers and how he saved them from an Apache attack, the cost being his capture. Corporal Macon, the leader of the soldiers, escapes and tries to get help for McCord, but is not only rebuffed by the Major, who sees no reason to go and save a coward, but winds up accused of desertion just like McCord was and jailed.
