Plot Overview
The leading singing trio in the country, the DeArmand sisters, suddenly becomes a duo when Alicia, the sister who is the center of the group, collapses and dies on stage, due to strychnine poisoning. Burke's surprised to learn that neither of her sisters is unhappy at her passing, one of them because she tried to break up her romance to a has-been actor/real estate broker. There are also other men in the picture: the act's manager, who was involved with Alicia, and also their former arranger, who was in love with her and was driven to the bottle and subsequently, to a sanitarium for alcoholics. A second murder, that of the romantic actor, gives Burke the clue he needs to solve this case.
