Rodeo rider Jed Shelby returns to Sundown after a long absence, hoping to reconcile with the family he left behind, and also to visit his oldest son Buzz, who's awaiting trial in the hit-and-run death of his girlfriend. Convinced that the boy who was with Buzz that night is the real killer, Jeb confronts him and attacks him and gets on the bad side of Sheriff Mayberry.
