Raul Runs Away (2) is the fourteenth episode of the fourth season of Chico and the Man, and the seventy-ninth episode overall.

This was the second part of what was originally an hour-long episode, produced to give closure as to why Francisco Rodriguez (the original "Chico") was no longer around, and also to affirm that he was a beloved member of the cast who brought new purpose to the lives whom he touched. The second half of "Raul Runs Away," shown here, centers on Ed's search for Raul, with the help of a crazy private detective ... but most importantly, Ed finding Raul, explaining things and that he indeed has a special part in his life and Ed finally admitting to someone that Chico has died (but not how), finally giving Ed closure.

Plot Overview

Ed apologies to Raul (over the earlier outburst) and explains that while Chico indeed was like a son to him, Raul also has a special place in his heart and is becoming like a son to him. He also admits that Chico has died (although not now), which Raul accepts. Raul then says that his own mother had died but he thinks of her often. But he's not ready to return to Los Angeles just yet.

Ed is left to go back to Los Angeles alone ... except that Zoltan is driving franctically after the bus ... and Raul is waving his body and arms outside his car as he gets Ed's attention. Ed manages to get the bus driver to stop, and Ed and Raul embrace. Raul is coming back to live with Ed after all and that he is more than happy to come home. Zoltan is touched and tells Ed his services were on the house.

And with that, Ed finally has much needed closure over Chico's passing. Chico will always have a special part in his life, but now Ed has renewed purpose and a responsibility to raise Raul, the new "Chico."
