Trivia

  • One of the storyboard artists for the series quit after seeing some of the first panels of the show. She explained, "I just know I'm going to Hell for working on this show."
  • Plans for the series started in 1995. The only reason why the series was produced is because of the sudden boom with animated shows due to Family Guy and other related shows.
  • The show was pitched to FOX, UPN, WB, FX and HBO. The only one of those networks to consider the show as it was (HBO would have taken the show if it were more like the movie) was UPN, who was extremely interested and offered 13 episodes on the air. Based on UPN's offer, ABC offered 6 episodes produced. They accepted ABC's offer because they were assured that UPN wouldn't exist in a year.
  • When the show was put in front of test audiences, the people gathered for the screening were for an entirely different show that was more of an hour drama format. The demographic that the show mainly appealed to was entirely absent from these network screenings.
  • The disclaimer at the beginning of the episodes was a request from the network, who were afraid that the show would be considered offensive. They added the disclaimers with the stipulation that they could write anything they wanted to as long as they made sure to note what the legal department wanted them to.
  • The series was originally supposed to air in March (mid-season).
