Clutch Cargo was an animated adventure series airing in syndication in 1959.
Clutch was a renowned author who took his plane around the globe in search of adventure. He was assisted by Spinner (a boy) and Paddlefoot (a Dachshund). Clutch used his wits to outsmart his enemies and win the day.
Billed as "television's first comic strip" (as everything was mainly static drawings), the show was ridiculed for its "Synchro-Vox" process. Developed by Ed Gillette for commercials in the 1950s in which animals talked, Synchro-Vox involved filming the voice actors' mouths as they read their scripts and superimposing them over the characters' mouths.
The series was presented in 26 installments each consisting of five 5-minute episodes, or each episode was screened daily as part of stations' cartoon packages or live kids shows.
