Plot Overview

The date is May 21, 2001. A young single mother on welfare and her daughter fall from a window in her apartment...the daughter is killed instantly, and the mother is in a coma. Over two years later, she awakens from her coma, and the unsolved case is reopened, and all the mother remembers are 'butterflies' and 'the man who bruised her when she wouldn't smile'. Lilly and Scotty find out that a young black man ran from the apartment house that fateful night and set out to find him, but later find out that several other men were in the apartment that day and that one of them was captured on a security camera. The case brings back bad memories for Lilly, herself the child of a welfare mom.
