Plot Overview

A real detective--Columbo--takes on a popular TV detective (Ward Fowler, who plays Inspector Lucerne)...the actor murders a producer with whom he was once involved and makes it look like an armed robbery.

William Shatner portrays actor Ward Fowler in this episode. Fowler is insufferable and constantly makes demands on the producers of his show, where he plays a dogged detective named Inspector Lucerne. Let's see...a character that's a difficult actor playing a determined detective...who could the writers of this episode have based that character on? ;)
