Plot Overview
The amoral, wealthy, and dying Frank Cochran writes a letter to estranged daughter Allison, apparently hoping to patch up his relationship with her before he passes away, largely by offering to host her wedding to her fiance Ryan at his manor on June 27th. Unknown to Allison, her father actually needs his potential son-in-law to take up his task of feeding a giant eldritch monster resting below the mansion known as the Minhocão, which must be fed a human sacrifice every 15 years to prevent it from going on a rampage.
Notes
Trivia
The Show
- Frank, Allison's abusive father, is played by Tom Atkins, who played Billy's abusive father in the wraparound story of the original Creepshow.
- His elderly appearance and villainous ways are also reminiscent of Nathan Grantham from the same film, who was similarly killed by his abused child.
Behind the Scenes
Allusions and References
- Along with once again playing an abusive father like the original Creepshow, references are made to some of Tom Atkins' other roles:
- His family name of Cochran is based on Conal Cochran from Halloween III: Season of the Witch, who Atkins' character Dan Challis fought against.
- The Creep recites the phrase "Thrill me." in his narration for the episode, which was the catchphrase of Atkins' character Ray Cameron from Night of the Creeps.
- Ryan refers to Frank's house as Wayne Manor, the residence of billionaire Bruce Wayne, the true identity of DC Comics superhero Batman. Daryl later makes another reference when he likens crawling out of the Minhocão's pit to The Dark Knight, although he's clearly mixing it up with the sequel The Dark Knight Rises, which sees Bruce Wayne crawl out of the pit he had been placed in by the villain Bane.
- The Minhocão is a monster from Brazilian folklore, said to be a large fish or worm measuring 20 to 50 m (65 to 165 feet), even up to 80 m (260 feet) in length. This depiction bares little similarity to how it's depicted in the episode, which paints it as more of a giant insect.
- The Minhocão's digestive process involves the beast keeping its victim alive and digesting it slowly over many years, similar to the Sarlacc from Star Wars.
Memorable Moments
Goofs
- During the comic panels flashing back to the Minhocão's earlier devastation, its name is spelled with an accent mark, but the closing panel spells it without.
