Disasterpiece Theatre is a local comedy show produced and aired by XETV/channel 6 in San Diego, California. It aired Saturday nights from 1980 to 1983. Like Mystery Science Theater 3000 would do to great effect some nine years later, the show made fun of cheesy movies.
Jay Curtis played host Sal U. Lloyd, an unhappy TV show host who is accosted by various people before the week's featured bad movie starts. Similar to what Mystery Science Theater 3000 would master later, funny captions would show on the screen during pivotal parts of the movie. Sal would be shown to suffer mental maladies after seeing the movie and he would come to terms with the show's producer, George Mucas (a parody of George Lucas). The show's budget was so threadbare, they would use the same tape to record each show, thus erasing the previous show. Disasterpiece Theatre does have a YouTube channel, where a couple of movies are shown.
