The Twelfth Doctor is an incarnation of the Doctor on Doctor Who, portrayed by Peter Capaldi.

Basic Information

The Twelfth Doctor is more moodier and at first unsure of who he is but slowly knows his purpose is to battle evil. His companion, Clara Oswald, strives to understand him as they travel time and space. He is heartbroken when Clara sacrifices herself to the point that he returns to Gallifrey ("the long way around") and stands up to the hierarchy.

Character History

The Twelfth, whose eyes appear briefly in "The Day of the Doctor," starts off asking Clara "Am I a good man?" This inverted ego takes time in fermenting itself into the hero the Doctor usually is, although he does do things that gets Clara angry, such as when he interferes with her budding romance with ex-soldier Danny Pink. He also meets a villainess in Missy, who is believed to be a distaff incarnation of the Master.

He regenerates at the end of the 2017 Christmas special "Twice Upon A Time" after he and the first Doctor (David Bradley) fight each other's attempts to regenerate but then consign themselves to it when they help a troop of World War I soldiers find their place in time.
