Basic Information
Captain of Serenity, Malcolm Reynolds is a veteran of the war between the forces of the Independents and the Alliance. Reynolds was a sergeant and served at one of, if not the bloodiest battle of the war, the Battle of Serenity Valley. The Battle of Serenity Valley was a drawn-out, deadly conflict between the Alliance "purple-bellies" and the Independent "browncoats" that ended when the Independent command decided to surrender without consulting their ground troops, leaving Mal and the other surviving Browncoats to the Alliance.
Reynolds and his unit exec, Zoe Alleyne (later to become Zoe Washburne), stayed together after the end of the war and bought the Firefly-class mid bulk transport Serenity with the intention of using it to haul cargo and avoid Alliance entanglements.
