Friday the 13th: Crystal Lake Chronicles was a horror drama that began development in 2014. Unlike the previous Friday the 13th series, this would have actually been based on the popular slasher films of the same name.

The series began as a concept as early as 2004, with Sean S. Cunningham proposing it as being "set in a town with all this Jason history". However, series antagonist Jason Voorhees would be recurring background character with the show more focusing on "coming-of-age issues".

In 2014, the prospect of a Friday the 13th TV series came closer to fruition when Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films and Crystal Lake Entertainment planned to produce a such a series and in 2015, The CW showed interest and planned to option it. Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle were hired to write the pilot, while Cunningham, Randall Emmett, George Furla and Mark Canton were to be Executive Producers. The series story at this stage was to focus on a group of characters at Crystal Lake who have to deal with the return of Jason, as well as discover new information about he and the Voorhees family. However, the project was effectively declared dead in 2016. While the network liked the pilot script, it passed citing issues about how dark it was and the possible longevity the concept could sustain. Despite this, development got as far as the special effects studio Sota FX designing concepts for the look of Jason Voorhees that they were working simultaneously on for an adjacent film that was also cancelled.

The project is independent of the Crystal Lake series that would later succeed it.
