Plot Overview

Carol endures more ridicule from her brothers about her college-aged boyfriend, Sandy, as she dresses for a night on the town. Jason and Maggie, having disapproved of Sandy, have said no, but Carol sneaks out anyway, and she and Sandy enjoy a wild night out on the town. Flash forward to the next day, when Carol is nervously awaiting the arrival of Sandy, who is overdue for their date. Ben doesn't make matters any easier as he attempts to video-record Carol's fretting for his own amusement. But the fun and teasing quickly end when Carol gets a phone call informing her that Sandy is in the hospital, having been involved in a car accident on his way home from his date with Carol. Carol goes to the hospital to visit Sandy, who appears to be just a little bruised. There, Sandy lets on that drunk driving charges are pending against him, but he feels lucky that he has gotten a second chance. Carol tells her parents, who are upset. Jason wants to teach Carol a lesson, but Maggie is just glad Carol is OK.

But some much worse news is awaiting Carol at come. A somber Mike informs the family that he had just gotten a phone call informing him that Sandy had just died (of internal bleeding). Carol is upset at first, thinking that Mike is playing a cruel practical joke, but as he presses on with the details, it becomes clear that Sandy really has died, driving home the point of the dangers inherent in drunk driving.
