Herman and Katnip is a theatrical animated series of short subjects produced by the Famous Studios and released by Paramount Pictures.

In what is essentially a pale imitation of MGM's Tom & Jerry, Katnip the Cat always sought to make life miserable for a gang of mice. They would call upon their cousin Herman to save the day. The difference between this and Tom & Jerry is that the stylized cartoon violence was more extreme, pastiched and parodied on The Simpsons with their show-within-a-show Itchy & Scratchy.

Herman had appeared in standalone cartoons and in cameos of other characters' films as early as 1944. Katnip entered the scene as Herman's foe in 1950 and appeared with him to 1959. He would appear in 1995's The Baby Huey Show in new episodes.

The Herman & Katnip series would be incorporated in the ABC prime time series Matty's Funday Funnies and then go into syndication after Harvey Comics bought it and the other original Famous Studios characters. Some prints scattered about have the U.M.& M. or NTA tags affixed to them while an official DVD release has the original Paramount titles.
