Hockey Night in Canada is a Canadian sports program airing on CBC Television. It also aired on private competitor CTV in a Wednesday night edition from 1965 to 1975, after which production of midweek National Hockey League games was taken over by local stations in or adjacent to a Canadian city with an NHL team. It joined the schedules of Rogers Media's family of broadcast and cable networks (including Citytv, Sportsnet, FX and OMNI Television) in the fall of 2014 due to parent company Rogers Communications acquiring the national broadcast rights to Hockey Night in Canada, although Rogers will continue to sublicence Saturday night and playoff games to CBC, as well as French-language cable sports channel TVA Sports (owned by TVA parent Groupe TVA).
