Plot Overview
It is late one Night, and LeBeau sneaks a woman into the camp through the tunnel under the doghouse. This is no ordinary woman. She is a German baroness. Baroness Lili has decided to defect to the Allies. She is wanted all over Germany. Hogan is working on a plan to get her out of Germany some way. He hasn't figured it out yet. Complicating this is the arrival of the new prisoner. This new prisoner, Colonel Crittenton, has been a Colonel for 11-years, therefore he outranks Hogan, making him the Senior Officer of the camp. This Colonel has tried many times to escape but has been caught everytime. Hogan and his men will not tell him about their operation since the activities that they engage in are a violation of the articles of war, therefore, must be reported. Crittenton, with the reluctant help of Carter and Newkirk, begins digging a tunnel. The tunnel leads to their tunnel, where the baroness is also. Crittenton knocks through the wall. Thinking fast, Hogan drops a wrench on his head. When Crittenton comes to, he is told that the tunnel had caved in, a piece of board had rendered him unconscience. They will have to find another means of escape. Crittenton's plan to cut the wires to the fence inspires Hogan to fly a homemade plane that they have been working on in the tunnel to fly the Baroness out of Germany. The plane will be ready for take off. All they need is a diversion to drown out the noise for at least a minute. Crittenton, still wanting to escape, cuts the wire. However, the entire fence comes down, to his stunned eyes. He runs outside the camp. He wants Newkirk and Carter to come with him. They tell him that since he is now outside the camp, this makes Colonel Hogan the Senior Officer, and he prefers them to stay. After kissing Hogan good-bye, the Baroness gets into the plane and flies away. Crittenton would later get recaptured and sent to another Stalog.
Notes
This is the first of several appearances of Bernard Fox playing Colonel Crittenton. This is also the first of several appearances for Louise Troy. She would however play different characters in the course of the series.
