The Top Secret Top Coat is the twenty-ninth episode of the second season of Hogan's Heroes, and the sixty-first episode overall.

Plot Overview

A respected German baron is about to sell top secret information to the Allies. The Underground has arranged a meeting at a party to receive the information. The information will come in an envelope labeled "Operation Dragonfly". The baron is to give the secret papers to Colonel Klink, only it will not be to Klink, but to Hogan who will attend the party as Klink. Hogan will dress similar to Klink using Klinks invitation. There is a snag in the plan though. Burkulter pays a visit to Klink to inform him that the baron had been found out as a traitor. He also informs Klink that the baron will sell whatever the secrets to a contact that will attend the party. Klink, who had been sent an invitation but never received it (thanks to Hogan intercepting it), will attend the party with Burkhalter to arrest the baron, and his contact. Hogan, having overheard the discussion, has Kinchloe contact London for them to warn the baron not to attend. But there is no way to warn the baron, so Hogan comes up with a plan to prevent Klink from staying once he and Burkhalter arrive. The plan worked as Klink leaves the party when he receives a call from camp alerting him to what he believed to have been a prison escape. Klink happily heads back to Stalog 13, only to find that it was a false alarm. Burkhalter would soon arrive. The plan of Hogan's, though successful in preventing Klink from meeting the baron, was for naught. As it turned out, the baron had not even attended the party. The baron had left instructions to the maid to leave the envelope with the information about Operation Dragonfly to be put in Klinks overcoat the moment that he arrives. It was done, and now Klink is unknowingly carrying vital information on "Operation Dragonfly". All is left for Hogan to do is get the overcoat off Klink, and get the envelope. This task will prove to be complicated as Klink is suspected of being in cahoots with the baron. Klink is understandably worried, and refuses to take off his overcoat. He eventually does remove his overcoat the following day. Klink had been informed that the Gestapo will be coming to the camp to question him about his knowledge of the baron. Klink, though he knows nothing about the baron, is likely to be arrested for just being a suspect: His name was on an invitation to attend the barons party. This fact, and the fact that the Gestapo pride themselves on always being correct, could spell Klink's doom. To prevent this from happening, and get the envelope containing infromation on "Operation Dragonfly", Hogan has Carter dressed as a friendly Gestapo agent who will ask Klink a few questions that Klink quickly answers. Carter as the friendly Gestapo agent is satisfied, and leaves with Klink's overcoat. Klink, being both relieved and happy that the Gestapo agent finds him innocent of any wrongdoing, fails to notice that Carter/Schmict takes his overcoat. Hogan, pretending to be suspicious of this man, convinces Klink that Schmich was actually the baron in disguise, attempting to get information from Klink. Convinced of Hogan's suspicions, Klink and Hogan leave to try to stop the man. Hogan notices that Klink is wearing the wrong overcoat. It was Carter's top coat. They look inside the pockets to find an envelope with the words "Operation Dragonfly" written on front. This is a phony envelope with phony information. Klink reports this to Burkhater and Gruber, the real Gestapo agent who was to question Klink. Having read the infromation, Gruber is convinced that it's contents are real, and must be destroyed. Klink burns the envelope, but inadvertedly burns his desk. Klink is once again saved from either a court-martial, or execution by Hogan.
