Initial Reaction is a game show which piloted in April of 1975.

Two contestants and five celebrities participate. Five categories are presented, then a celebrity is chosen at random. A contestant chooses a category then the celebrities write down a word associated with the category ("Things that keep you awake at night") that starts with the that chosen celebrity's last name initial. The celebrities are chosen one at a time between the contestants and the celebrities each show their answer. Every different answer scores $50. The fifth celebrity's answer doubles the score if acceptable. Two rounds are played.

The top scorer tries for up to $16,000 in a bonus game. A subject and a letter is posed. The contestant secretly writes down a word as an "insurance policy." The contestant selects a celebrity which has a starting value. One has $1,000, the others are worth $200. The celebrities write down their answers and the contestant starts selecting them one at a time. Each acceptable answer after the first is worth double each time with the option to stop at any time and take what he/she has won. If at any time an answer is duplicated, the round is over and potentially the money accumulated is lost unless the contestant's "insurance policy" answer is accepted.

It is not clear if Initial Reaction was intended for syndication or network; it was recorded at CBS Television City in Hollywood.
