Jeremy Clarkson was born April 11, 1960 in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. He is a writer and broadcaster who specializes in motoring. He writes weekly columns for The Sun, a UK daily, and The Sunday Times newspaper and is a host for the BBC motoring program Top Gear.

Clarkson was educated at the Repton School in the village of Repton, in Derbyshire. He trained as a journalist on the Rotherdam Advertiser in England. Developing a liking for cars in 1977 when he passed his driving test at the wheel of his grandfather’s Bentley R Type, Clarkson decided to combine his writing skills and his interest in automobiles and formed the Motoring Press Agency with a business partner in 1984. He has contributed to specialist car magazines over the years, such as Performance Cars from 1986 to 1993, and writes daily columns The Sun, a UK daily, and The Sunday Times newspaper. He is also a contributor to the BBC’s Top Gear magazine.

Clarkson is mostly associated with the BBC’s Top Gear, a motoring program. He presented the show from 1989 to 1999, before leaving the show. Following Clarkson’s departure, ratings dropped over fifty percent, prompting the BBC to cancel the series in 2001. Clarkson pitched a new version of Top Gear and the show returned in a new format in 2002, which Clarkson currently presents. He has presented Jeremy Clarkson’s Star Cars in 1993, Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld, Jeremy Clarkson’s Extreme Machines in 1998, and Jeremy Clarkson’s Car Years in 2000.

Clarkson is the author of several books, including Jeremy Clarkson’s Motorworld, Clarkson on Cars, Jeremy Clarkson’s Hot 100, Born To Be Riled, and The World According to Clarkson.

He married his agent, Frances Catherine Cain, on May 8, 1993. They have three children: Emily, Finlo, and Katya. The family lives in the Cotswolds near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England. They also have a house on the Isle of Man, his wife’s homeland.
