Jesse Spencer is an Australian actor best known for his role as Dr. Robert Chase on House, M.D..

Jesse Gordon Spencer was born on February 12, 1979 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. His father, Dr. Rodney Spencer, was a doctor who, along with his wife and Jesse's mother Robyn Spencer, founded the right-wing political party, Australians Against Further Immigration. Robyn also worked with the One Nation party and ran for the Australian Senate but was not elected.

From an early age, Spencer showed a talent for music. He sang in the Australian boys choir and became skilled at playing the violin, piano, guitar and drums. He was also a gifted student and was offered a chance to study medicine at Melbourne University and become a doctor like his father and all three of his siblings, but he declined to chase his goal of acting.

After an early role in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, he came to America and landed roles in such films as Swimming Upstream and Uptown Girls. In 2004, he debuted as Dr. Robert Chase on the TV series House, M.D., and became a recognized star in the United States. Appropriately enough for his background, he plays an intensivist and diagnostician whose father is also a doctor.
