KXAN-TV is an NBC affiliate in Austin, Texas. The station broadcasts on digital channel 21 displayed to tuners on virtual channel 36 and is owned by Nexstar Media Group. It's sister stations are The CW affiliate KNVA channel 54 and MyNetworkTV affiliate KBVO channel 14.
KXAN began in 1965 as call letters KHFI-TV as an independent station. In 1966, the station became an NBC affiliate and has been the affiliate since then. In 1973, the station changed its call letters to KTVV then in 1987 to KXAN-TV. From 1991 to 2008, KXAN operated a semi-satellite station named KXAM-TV in Llano, that station became a MyNetworkTV affiliate under the KBVO call letters, which the call letters were previously used by former independent station and FOX affiliate KEYE-TV from 1983 to 1995, which is now a CBS affiliate.
