Plot Overview

Jess Harper has drifted into Laramie, Wyoming Territory from Texas looking for the "friend" who stole his money. He gets a cold reception from the lawmen of Laramie when he's mistaken for a member of Bud Carlin's gang, out to spring one of their own from jail. Jess receives an even chillier reception from Slim Sherman co-owner of Sherman Ranch. Slim's kid brother Andy takes a shine to the stranger when Jess finds himself at the Sherman Relay Station on the Central Overland Mail stage Line. Slim's dislike of Jess intensifies when Andy makes it plain he'd rather partner with the drifter than his own brother. Slim and Jess are forced into an uneasy partnership when Bud Carlin shows up at the relay station and takes them hostage to impersonate the judge who is on his way to Laramie to try Pete Morgan, the "friend" Jess Harper has been looking for.
