Pale Force is an animated segment created by New Yorker cartoonist Paul Noth and comedian Jim Gaffigan starring Gaffigan and Conan O'Brien as superheroes who fight crime with their paleness and lasers that fire out of their nipples. Gaffigan does the voices for both characters, which leads to O'Brien being saddled with a high-pitched, almost girlish voice.

Basic Information

Following his stand-up bit on the September 15, 2005 episode of Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Jim Gaffigan premiered the first episode of Pale Force to a great deal of acclaim and popularity. The premiere of the series featured Jim and Conan facing down Lady Bronze, who Jim claims was played by Eartha Kitt. Subsequent sketches featured the same general plot, where the two would fight a villain (often Lady Bronze or Phillip Seymour Hoffman), Conan would wet himself and Jim would save the day. Following the segment, Conan often expresses his distaste for how he's portrayed in the cartoon because he doesn't have any editorial control over the cartoons.

In 2006, NBC responded to the popularity of the series by co-producing the shorts and adding new episodes to their website every Friday. Typically, an episode of Pale Force broadcast on Late Night will be the first part of a two or three part story, the rest of which can be found on the NBC website.

Beyond the NBC webisodes, Pale Force became part of the marketing campaign for Late Night by making episodes and other content available on Sprint video enabled phones. Gaffigan parodied the merchandising of the series by showing off fictional toys based on his series, including Pale Man and Conan action figures and a "My Pretty Conan" doll.
