Megas XLR is an animated parody of popular anime cliches, particular in the field of mecha or giant robot anime. When a robot from the distant future is sucked back in time, the fate of the Earth lies in the hands of one man... a shiftless layabout named Coop. With Megas (Mechanized Earth Guard Attack System), Coop defends the planet from evil while destroying it in the process.
The series was first debuted during Cartoon Network's 2002 Summer Contest, which allowed viewers to vote on which pilot would be developed into a full series, under the name Lowbrow. The series received the most votes in a near landslide and went into production in late 2002. The series was meant to premiere in December 2003, but it was delayed for unknown reasons. The series debuted on the Toonami block of programming on May 1, 2004 until it was removed from the block and placed in Miguzi where it floundered. The series was ultimately cancelled on April 26, 2005.
