Plot Overview
The victim is an environmental consultant who has just returned from a trip to the Andes rain forest. The killer is a scientist working on a cure for breast cancer. The victim was killed by asphyxiation due to chloromine poisoning, his body found inside a sensory deprivation tank by his girlfriend, who happens to be the assistant to the scientist. Betty's examination of the body turns up something startling...the dead man was exposed to an active pathogen, which means that anyone who had contact with him could become infected as well. The lab is shut down to avoid further contamination, which means that Betty becomes deathly ill. They visit the girlfriend of the victim, who's been exposed and needs hospitalization, and determine that the killer has also been exposed, making it imperative to catch him before he can start an epidemic. A closer look at the relationship between the three parties provides ample motive for the murder. In terms of the office's personnel situation, Oscar is steamed about Kennecki's unprofessional attitude, which comes to a head after he asked quarterback Russell Bowman for his autograph, and has him reassigned elsewhere, bringing in a new detective, Paula Mazur, who isn't exactly the warmest person they ever met, but definitely an improvement over Kennecki.
