Plot Overview

The victim is a young woman who worked in a coffee shop and also was active in medieval live-action role-playing games. The killer is a straight-laced, religious family man and the father of the dead girl's co-worker. The victim was found dead in her apartment, struck dead with a mace that belonged to her boyfriend, another participant in the medieval games. Angie, assisted by Stoker, discovers evidence that the boyfriend wasn't the only romantic partner the girl ever had and that they fought a few times, making him the leading suspect in the case until they discover that the killer was left-handed and the boyfriend is right-handed. Angie and Oscar unwittingly complicate the situation by overhearing privileged conversation between the boyfriend and his lawyer, where the lawyer is trying to get his client to confess. The lawyer balks when Oscar castigates him for his actions, and is even more upset when Oscar gives the boyfriend the card for another lawyer. Eventually, they're led to the dead girl's co-worker, which leads them to check out her unusual family situation, which just might provide a good motive for murder. Angie and Oscar both contemplate their futures with the force...Angie considers an offer to work for the War Crimes division of Interpol in Paris to be closer to Stoker, while Oscar, who's being hassled by Internal Affairs cop Saunders over the situation with the lawyer, gives thought to retiring.
