Plot Overview
The Short
In Why Study the Industrial Arts?, an athlete (more precisely a high school basketball player) talks about his love for industrial shop class. His friend, however, remains skeptical about whether or not a shop class would really help him in life. His skepticism is relieved when the coach of the team admits that although he doesn't use what he learned from shop class very often, he still appreciates the skills he picked up. All in all, we learn that the main character loves his industrial arts class a little too much.
The Movie
The Host Segments
- Opening: Tom Servo has a planetarium show, but Crow keeps making jokes about Uranus and Servo gets fed up.
- Segment One: Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank challenge the crew of the Satellite of Love to a swing choir competition where they sing a medley of songs poorly. Naturally, Forrester is declared the winner because he's scoring the event.
- Segment Two: The robots are behind in their industrial arts projects. Although Crow mocks Servo for his shop ineptitude, Crow runs off to finish his project... only to cut himself in half. Crow's halves get into an argument and try to reform unsuccessfully.
- Segment Three: Crow puts himself into a "double jock lock," where the straps on the jockstrap are pulled over the victim's legs, rendering him immobile. When Mike asks if Crow needs any help, Crow declines and gets stuck while the alarm goes off.
- Closing: Crow and Servo attempted parachuting but they got stuck since they're in a space ship. Instead of letting Mike cut them down, they decide to perservere and Mike reads a letter from "Ben D. Martini" instead. Meanwhile, Forrester throws dodgeballs at Frank to toughen him up.
Stinger
- Pete: I dunno, I feel real free up there in that high, blue sky.
