In O Cangaceiro do Futuro, Virguley is a jack-of-all-trades always getting into trouble and trying to make ends meet in São Paulo, and who dreams of returning home to the Northeast as a rich man. Between jobs, he takes advantage of his resemblance to Lampião to put on shows in public in São Paulo. One day, after getting into yet another sticky situation - he gets smacked in the ear and ends up all the way back in 1927, in the midst of the bandit era, where the locals take him for the real Lampião. Taking advantage of the confusion, Virguley gathers a gang like none other, falls in love with Mariá and becomes a powerful man in the town. But since nothing in the life of this scoundrel good-for-nothing is easy, the story will have lots of twists and turns, including the true King of the Bandits showing up to put an end to this tale.
