Otherworld is a sci-fi adventure that aired on CBS. The story is set around the Sterling family. Whilst on holiday in Egypt, they are taken on a tour of the Great Pyramid of Giza, at the same time that a conjunction of all the major planets is taking place. When they are at one of the deepest points in the pyramid, their guide tries to extort more money out of the family to guide them out again, Hal refuses of course, and a couple of seconds later the lights go out. It is at this point that a strange vortex appears and transports the family to another place similar to Earth but in a parallel universe. The new planet is called 'Thel'. Thel is divided into zones, and travel between these zones is not permitted. The family risk travelling from zone to zone, settling for a few days, then moving on in the hope of finding someone or something to help them get back home. The world is policed by a unit of 'Zone Troopers', who have 'Access Crystals' which give them access to information and places not permitted by normal inhabitants, Hal gets into a scuffle with one of these troopers, Commander Kroll who is stunned with his own gun, allowing Hal to take his crystal and vehicle. Kroll persues the Sterling's relentlessly both to recover his crystal, and to find out just who they really are. The Sterlings have to adopt different identities in order to avoid detection in each zone.
