Plot Overview

A series of minor tremors begin striking the Los Angeles area, and a seismologist goes on TV to discuss the possibility of the tremors being a precursor to a major earthquake. Molly watches the report on the news and becomes very worried.

David is about to turn 13 and has a huge crush on a pretty red-headed classmate named Chelsea. They and the rest of their social studies class are going to visit a museum on a field trip, and David ponders his move to win Chelsea's heart, but there's competition.

Gus' truck needs major repairs and figures it's cheaper in the long run to buy a new one, but he is a bit short of funds. So he decides to get a part-time job, before going to the bank to get a loan. The loan officer, however, is a little bit difficult to work with.

A baby boy is abandoned on the Witherspoons' doorstep, and Jessie is instantly smitten. She and Kris really start to bond with the little tyke, but realize the baby may have been left behind by mistake ... or by a scared mother who had no idea what to do and decided to leave it in the care of someone who might have helped care for her son. Meantime, Jessie learns that Kris wants to take flying lessons and get a pilot's license, but knowing the household finances are already under stress, says no. Kris doesn't take no for an answer and sneaks out of school one day to meet with a flight instructor.

So: Jessie at work, Gus taking care of the baby at home and then going to the bank to meet with the loan officer, Molly at school, David and his class on the field trip, and Kris taking her flying lesson ...

... when a mild-to-moderate earthquake strikes.
