Oz has had a large ensemble cast throughout its six-season run. This page lists all the prisoners and staff members of the Oswald State Penitentiary, as well as notable family members of the prisoners and staff. The characters are listed by number of appearances (not counting re-used footage/sound), and sorted either by the group that they are most notably connected to.

The list is complete through the end of the series and represents each character's status at that point in time.

The Aryans

All characters known to have been classified as Aryans. The Aryan Brotherhood is a gang of white supremacist led by Vern Schillinger.

The Gangsters

All characters known to have been classified as gangsters. The gangsters are the African American prisoners of Oz associated with the drug dealing business. Their most prominent leaders are Simon Adebisi and Burr Redding.

The Muslims

All characters known to have been classified as Muslims. The Muslims are a black militant group and are led primarily by Kareem Saïd.

The Latinos

All Latin American inmates. Most of the Latinos are involved in the drug trade within Oz and have been led by various inmates, including Miguel Alvarez, Raoul "El Cid" Hernandez and Enrique Morales.

The Italians

All Italian inmates. Most of the Italian inmates were involved with the mob before going to prison. In Oz, most of them are involved with the drug trade. Their leaders have included Nino Schibetta, Antonio Nappa and Chucky Pancamo.

The Irish

All inmates that are of Irish descent. Although the Irish never form an active cooperative group within Oz, the most prominent member of the Irish is Ryan O'Reily, who is known to allign with any group of inmates in order to gain what he wants.

The Bikers

The Bikers are a gang of white inmates who are heavily tattooed and mostly quick tempered. They are led by the likes of Scott Ross and Jaz Hoyt and are often in alliance with the Aryan Brotherhood.

The Christians are a group of inmates who generally try to stay out of trouble and focus on their religion. They are led by an incarcerated reverend, Jeremiah Cloutier.
