Planet Earth is a documentary miniseries that aired on BBC One in the UK and on the Discovery Channel in the US. It depicts the features and wildlife of various natural habitats across the planet. The groundbreaking series took five years to film and includes things never before seen on film. It was filmed in 39 countries and 204 locations. Each episode was accompanied by a 10-minute behind the scenes mini episode chronicling some of the extraordinary lengths the film crews took in the making of the series. These were entitled Planet Earth Diaries in the UK and Capturing the Shot in the US. The BBC version of the show had David Attenborough narrating while the Discovery Channel version had Sigourney Weaver narrating and was edited for some limited commercial interruption. However both versions are available on Region 1 DVD.
