Characters
- Al reveals that he had a sister with Down's Syndrome. The constant ridicule and Al getting in fights to protect her is what he believes drove his mother to run off with an encyclopedia salesman. Then his father, a construction worker, got a job in the Middle East, which is how he wound up in an orphanage. His sister was put in an institution, but by the time Al was able to get her out she allegedly died of pneumonia in 1953 at the age of 16.
