The Origin of the Silver Surfer (1) is the first episode of the first season of Silver Surfer. Galactus arrives at Zenn-La and begins to consume the planet. In order to protect the cosmically important planet, Norrin Radd sacrifices himself and agrees to become a herald of Galactus, scouring the cosmos looking for planets to consume.

Plot Overview
The warring cultures of the Skrull and the Kree both send ambassadors to the planet Zenn-La in order to try and work out a form of peace. Zenn-La is known for its importance in the cosmos for spreading a message of peace. However, the planet-consuming being known as Galactus arrives to Zenn-La and begins to destroy it. The watcher, who is destined to observe the events of the cosmos but to never interfere, breaks his vow in order to warn the people of Zenn-La.
The ambassadors from Skrull and Kree team up in order to take down Galactus but are destroyed by him. Knowing that the planet is about to be destroyed, Norrin Radd pleas with the Watcher for help. The watcher tells him one secret that could save Zenn-La. Radd goes to Galactus and offers to be his servant; to survey the galaxy looking for planets to consume so that Galactus doesn't have to. Galactus accepts and gives him a portion of his power cosmic making the Silver Surfer. However, Galactus also blanked the Surfer's memories, so that he can not remember the things he learned on Zenn-La.

- Kree and Skrull: The two rival cultures of the Kree and Skrull make their first appearance. They arrive on Zenn-La in order to learn the ways of peace and bring resolution to the conflicts of the two cultures.
Characters
- Galactus: Galactus makes his first appearance and begins to consume Zenn-La. Galactus rides in a large spaceship which uses tenacles to draw power from the planets that he consumes.
- The Silver Surfer: The Silver Surfer is created by Galactus and given a portion of his power cosmic to aid him in finding planets. In addition he is given a surf board that travels faster than the speed of light.
