Plot Overview
Darwyn meets with Ray. He avoids telling him about what happened to Bobby, but Ray tells him that Bobby's family has also gone missing. They are interrupted by a page from Farik; Darwyn meets him at a little league practice, where Farik gives him instructions for reconnaisance on a potential target. While there, Darwyn confronts him about Bobby's family's disappearance; Farik tells him that he paid to have them flown back to Egypt. The cell scopes out the target--a shopping mall--while Farik obtains the reluctant support of Eddy Pangetsu, an Indonesian Muslim whose first priority is the cause in Jakarta.
Darwyn plans on a date with Gayle, but those plans are interrupted when Farik springs the cell into action ahead of the assumed schedule. Farik has a large quantity of anthrax which the cell is to use against the shopping mall. Darwyn quickly contacts Ray with the information. Just as Farik is about to inject the anthrax into the mall's ventilation system, he takes his mask off and tastes it. He tells Darwyn and Tommy that this is actually a test run, to determine how effective the anthrax--and the cell--will actually be. Darwyn just barely manages to call off the FBI from intervening.
Darwyn visits Gayle, who is upset at having been stood up; Darwyn has no excuse to offer. Darwyn then meets with Ray again, this time confiding with him that he killed Bobby, and confiding his fear that he has ruined his opportunity in the cell.
