Plot Overview

On a school field trip to LuthorCorp, Clark catches a lift alone with Alicia Baker, a beautiful but aloof classmate. The lift malfunctions and Clark, frying a security camera with his heat vision to protect his secret, punches through the wall to save them. He begs Alicia not to tell anyone, but realises his secret will soon be out when the security guards prising open the door see his arm sticking through the lift wall. Alicia saves him, however, by grabbing him and teleporting them to the ground floor.

Th next day Clark walks with her to school to thank her, and ascertains she was affected by the meteor shower. She asks about his powers, and he says only that everything is connected to the meteor shower. Later, he asks if she wants to team up for a class assignment, and she asks him out on a date. They see a movie and look at the stars and Clark takes her home, where they almost kiss, but Clark clearly doesn't feel quite ready. Later that night, Alicia teleports into Clark's room in her underwear and persuades him to kiss her, but Clark's Dad walks in on them. Clark talks with his parents the next day and explains that she is special, like him, and that since she knows about his powers maybe he can have a relationship with her without having to lie.

Meanwhile Lana has snuck into Adam's room, where she finds a diary detailing her and Clark's behaviour. Adam finds her and refuses to explain, and Lana orders him to leave. He only replies that she should check the tenancy laws: it's not easy to evict someone.

Clark returns to school only to find that Alicia has told everyone about their kiss, and she has also filled his locked locker with photos and love letters. He tries to explain to her that this is going too far and that they should slow down, but she doesn't listen. He pays a visit to Alicia's parents, who tell him Alicia already thinks of him as her boyfriend and try to warn him. He finds out they once stopped her using her power by locking her in a special room - lined with lead - but she begged them to let her out. Clark leaves, but Alicia appears, having overheard her father warn Clark. She travels to Clark's loft, which she has already redecorated, and scratched out Lana's photo in a yearbook. Clark tries to reason with her, but she gets a phonecall and they travel to the hospital, where Alicia's father has been taken after an "accident". Clark realises Alicia is responsible and confronts her, but she only says she did it "for us", and escapes when Clark tries to get her to confess to the Sheriff.

Lana goes to see Lex about Adam, worried that it can take six months to evict a tenant. Lex promises to help.

After Alicia threatens Clark, he goes to Chloe for help. Chloe goes to Alicia's house and tells her that the Sheriff suspects Clark in her father's accident; he's gone into hiding and needs her help. Alicia goes to a factory where Clark is hiding, and he tricks her into entering a room he has covered in lead paint. She can't teleport away, but she pulls a piece of kryptonite from her pocket - she overheard him mention his weakness when talking to his parents. Leaving him on the floor, she goes to kill Lana, thinking she is the only thing preventing them being together. Clark manages to kick the bucket of lead paint over the kryptonite and gets to Lana's just in time to save her by throwing another bucket of lead paint over Alicia, stopping her from teleporting away.

The next day, Lana visits Clark to thank him for saving her, but questions him; Alicia said he hadn't told Lana the truth about himself, and that he was still in love with her. Clark shrugs both off as mad rambling, but wonders if he will always be alone.

Lex startles Lana by being in Alex's room when she comes home, but it's not good news: though he's gone, Lex had nothing to with it, and his security people can't find him.

In a basement at LuthorCorp, Lionel turns on the lights and approaches Adam, who is strapped to a chair. Lionel told Adam to come to Smallville and get close to Lana so he could find out about Clark, but now Adam has failed. Dr. Teng comes in to adminster the serum that stops Adam's bleeding, but Lionel says Adam is no longer part of their research project and leaves with the serum, turning out the lights.

Notes

Arc Advancement

Happenings

  • Clark reveals his super-strength and heat vision to Alicia, though she doesn't tell anyone. She finds out about his weakness to kryptonite by spying on his conversation with his parents.
  • Dr. Teng has been working for Lionel all along, as has Adam.

Characters

  • Pete isn't involved with either of the main plots, but he and Clark seem to have gotten over their problems from the end of "Velocity".
  • Alicia Baker was given the power of teleportation by the meteor shower. She is unable to teleport through lead. There was a boy she liked before Clark and, according to her father, things "didn't work out well". She is coated in lead paint at the end of the episode, and presumably arrested by the Sheriff. She returns in ""Unsafe".
  • Adam Knight is left strapped to a chair in the dark, without his serum. It is unclear if he willingly helped Lionel or whether he was forced to in order to continue receiving the serum.
