Plot Overview

A group of Smurfs are sent to gather witch hazel, which grows near the (incidentally named) Witch Hazel Conservatory, a school for young witches. There, a young student named Brenda is warned by her teacher, Miss Snarly, that she is in danger of being expelled from the Conservatory if she fails to turn a songbird into a bat by sundown, this being her final chance to prove herself.

Brenda, however, is unable to successfully complete her ultimate assignment, and Smurfette spots her in her attempts. When Brenda tries to explain that she is trying to be an evil witch, the others reassure her that she can be a good witch. When Brenda doesn't know what that means. Smurfette and the others suggest that Papa Smurf can teach her how to be a good witch.

Miss Snarly is watching the proceedings via a crystal ball and is outraged, so she decides to stop Papa Smurf. However, he has a predicament on his hands when Brainy insults Brenda to the point where she turns him into a pig. Papa Smurf is able to turn back into a Smurf, but Miss Snarly comes and, after turning Brainy into a chicken, kidnaps Scardey and demands that Papa Smurf surrender or he'll never see Scardey again.

Eventually, this leads to a confrontation between the student and teacher, and in the end it is the student who teaches Miss Snarly a lesson, turning her broomstick into an anvil and causing her to fall into a ravine. This causes Miss Snarly to lose her powers for one year.

In the end, Brenda is able to restore Brainy to his normal self, as well as a couple of songbirds that had been changed into other creatures.
